The Old vs. New… Past, Future, NOW!

The ‘old’ doesn’t trust the new.
It resists change and is suspicious of the new. It is in the nature of the ‘old’ that it starts to doubt the ‘new’. It doesn’t know the ‘new’ yet because it’s old. The old likes the old way… Period.
It does not know any better.
But when the ‘new’ wants to arise. The old has to make way for the new.
But because of the fear of ‘what is coming’, The old does not give up without a good old fight.
The ‘now moment’ is like a protective shield that brings you as safe as possible from the old to the new. Be aware: The ‘old’ tries to drag you back in the ‘good old times’.
From time to time, the old, will succeed in its attempts.
The old uses tricks and temptation to hold you back in old comfortable ways.
Like a baby that wants to be born, the new can not resist to come forward and grow. The new has no other option. And the only way to come forwards is when the ‘old’ makes space.
When change comes, it hurts like hell.
The pain is in the uncertainty of the new and in the boredom of the old. The new pushes from the inside, it wants to make way for the future. The old attacks you from the outside and keeps you captive in the past behaviour, thoughts, emotions, etc. When you are in the now, both the past and the future are coming to seduce you. The past is so comfortable, because that is what you know to be. The future calls for adventure, that can be exciting and scary at the same time! Both are necessary and only the right amount of balance between the two allows for a safe passage over the bridge between the old to the new.
In the end, the new is inevitable… it is a rule of life. But it usually won’t come without chaos from the old, that is screaming to be acknowledged by the new. Only in this way, the new can start fresh and pure.
Overtime the ‘new’ becomes the ‘old’ as the future one day will become the past. But right ‘NOW’ is actually all that we need. Relax in the knowing that the new will bring forth exciting new opportunities, new ways of learning, of living life in it’s full spectrum. It is all about learning to trust. The old has served us in wonderful ways, but is not anymore. And it’s time to surrender to the ‘new’ that comes through the now.

The Art of suffering

In a world where nobody shows his true emotions, it is a real challenge when you are facing your own darkness. Traveling through your shadows to find this little piece of light inside of yourself, is a tiring job. The worst part is that nobody can do it for you. You know you have to go through this period on your own. The good news is that you are not alone and that there is a lot of help available.

Thank god for the shadow, for without it, I would burn in the light. This sentence came to me today while running in the park, while I observed the shadows of the trees.. I was amazed by it.   I was very thankful for these shadows, because they kept me away from the hot sun. Suddenly I realised that this is also the case with our own shadow part. We could not handle the magnificent light, because it would be too bright for us to be exposed at once.  Continue reading The Art of suffering

Pain and human emotions

Pain is something we all feel and it is very real. Sometimes pain can be overwhelming. I’m not speaking about physical pain, but more the emotional/spiritual pain. As a human I find it a challenge to be open about my emotions. I find it a challenge to talk about the kind of pain i’m experiencing. I don’t always get the feeling that there is a place for emotions in our society. From a young age we were taught that we are supposed to stand tall and fight against our emotions. If you show them you are labeled as weak or soft, or you have ‘lost control’. When you do show your emotions in public, people think something horrible happened to you, because it is an exception to see someone expressing his or her emotions outside on the street. As a guy it is even more of a challenge, because the main idea about a man is that he needs to be a warrior, a fighter. It is this twisted concept that causes a big part of my pain as well.
